Rent converter: pcm to pw and back

Switch any UK rent between per month (pcm), per week (pw), per 4 weeks and per year.

£
Per calendar month (pcm)
£1,200.00
Per week (pw)
£276.92
Per 4 weeks
£1,107.69
Per year (pa)
£14,400.00

How to convert pcm to pw

To convert rent per calendar month (pcm) to rent per week (pw), multiply by 12 and divide by 52. For example, £1,200 pcm is £1,200 × 12 ÷ 52 = £276.92 a week.

To go the other way, multiply the weekly rent by 52 and divide by 12. A rent of £300 pw is £300 × 52 ÷ 12 = £1,300 pcm. Dividing by 4 is not accurate because a year has 52 weeks, not 48.

Why the difference matters

Rental listings quote rent in different ways, so comparing them directly can mislead. Student lets and some London listings are often quoted per week, while most other lets use pcm. Always convert to the same unit before comparing.

The weekly figure also sets limits on what you can be charged upfront. In England, the tenancy deposit cap and holding deposit are both based on weekly rent.

Frequently asked questions

What does pcm mean in rent?

pcm stands for per calendar month. It is the usual way UK rental listings quote the monthly rent.

What does pw mean in rent?

pw stands for per week. Weekly rent is common for student lets and some city-centre or short lets.

Is rent per 4 weeks the same as pcm?

No. Four-week rent is paid 13 times a year, so it is cheaper than a calendar month paid 12 times. £1,000 every 4 weeks is £13,000 a year, or about £1,083 pcm.

How do I convert weekly rent to a yearly figure?

Multiply weekly rent by 52. For example, £250 pw is £13,000 a year.
